Steve died alone and forgotten. There was no one there to ease his troubled soul. We had not spoken for nearly ten years when he reached out to me after I had been in a serious accident in Barcelona, Spain. That was our last conversation. I had heard he was an accomplished furniture maker though I had not seen that side of him. He has grown children and a younger child or two somewhere. We have not always "been there" for our classmates. That would only be possible in a perfect world. Life doesn't come with a guarantee. We remember and then move on.

We remember Steve with fond memories of his place out at Lake Elysian. We were in Mn one year with our dog Annie and we took her on his padddle wheel pontoon.  Michael and Steve were driving golf balls off the end of Steve's dock. Great fun!  We were in contact by phone many times over the years. We were sad that he was unable to kick the drink. We miss him very much. Kathy Baynton-Cox

Steve and I were good friends from about 9th grade on.  Over the years we kept in touch through letters, phone calls, emails and long conversations at the class reunions.  He had a life filled with difficult times, but he somehow managed to keep his unique sense of humor through it all.  What I remember most about Steve is his big heart, real compassion for others, and fun approach to life.  I miss him a lot.

Steve lived a life with many struggles. I think Steve, more than any of us, would have loved to be at the reunion. He kept in contact with and up to date on so many of our class, and he treasured those old times and connections. Rest in peace, Steve.

It is comforting to read the posts from those of you who were friends of Steve and with whom he maintained contact. Thank you for your thoughtful comments and a huge thank you to Tom Bertrand   No one should leave this world alone.

Steve was always friendly to Pat and me at our reunions.  We are so sorry he had his struggles in life. As I read your posts,  he had to know how much you all cared for him.   Thank you.

It is always hard to realize the early death of someone we all knew in our high school days...I hope there will be remembrance as well as joyful reunion.
